Admission for M.S. by Research Programmes (2025-26) - Autumn Semester
The Master of Science (M.S.) by Research programme is currently being offered by the Department of CSE, the Center for Machine Intelligence and Data Science (CMInDS), and the Koita Center for Digital Health (KCDH).
The M.S. by Research programme in CSE is designed for students who aspire to build a research and development (R&D) career, serving as a crucial first step toward either a Ph.D. or a high-end R&D-oriented role in the industry. Students can gain admission to the program under the TA category, funded by the institute, or the research assistantship by project (RAP) category, where they work with a CSE faculty member on an R&D project that covers their stipend, ensuring a full scholarship in both cases.
The M.S. by Research in CMInDS balances research and practical application, offering a curriculum that spans a wide range of topics with the depth required to excel in industry-focused R&D. Additionally, the programme acts as a bridge for those considering a Ph.D. in the future, with a duration ranging from 18 months to 3 years.
The M.S. by Research programme offered by the Koita Center for Digital Health (KCDH) in "Healthcare Informatics" presents a unique opportunity for students passionate about R&D in Informatics and data analytics. This program enables students to develop technical expertise while gaining a deep understanding of healthcare and its related fields.
The entrance test for the M.S. By Research. programme is GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering).
Admissions are possible in full-time or part-time.
Applicants applying for Teaching Assistantship (TA)/ Teaching Assistantship through Project (TAP)/Research Assistantship (RA)/Research Assistantship through Project (RAP) categories need to "Register" on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal COAP. The admission offers will be made via COAP. (IISc Bangalore is the organizing institute for 2025-26 admissions, The COAP portal is likely to be opened on or after 20th March 2025).
