FAQ (M.Sc. and (Dual Degree M.Sc./Phd.))
1. What is/ are the required fees for filling out the application form?

The fee must be paid via SBI Internet Banking or the online payment system. You do not need to submit a hard copy of the application. Applications without online payment details will not be considered.
Please note that THE APPLICATION FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE.
2. I am a GATE-qualified applicant. Do I need to register at COAP?
Yes. GATE-qualified applicants who have applied for admission to an M.Tech. program under TA, RA, TAP, or RAP at IIT Bombay will receive admission offers exclusively through COAP. To review and select the most preferred offer from the participating institutes, each candidate must register and visit COAP. Without COAP registration, candidates cannot access the offers. 3. Do non-GATE candidates have to register at COAP?
No. Non-GATE candidates need not register at COAP.
4. Is COAP registration mandatory for M.S. program (TA/TAP/RAP category) and the 3-year M.Tech program (RA/RAP category)?
Yes, it is mandatory to register on COAP, if you are GATE qualified.
5. My last semester results have not been declared yet. What should I fill in the aggregate % field?
Select the option 'Result Awaited.' Do not enter any marks. Instead, fill in the aggregate percentage up to the current semester. Your admission will be provisional, contingent upon securing the required percentage after the final examination (i.e., the aggregate of all years/semesters).
6. I have completed a B.Tech./M.Sc. but do not have a GATE score. Am I eligible for the full-time program?
Please refer to the M.Tech. Information Brochure to check your eligibility criteria for admission under various categories.
7. What should I do if my undergraduate discipline does not appear on the dropdown list?
Please check the eligibility criteria for the qualifying and GATE disciplines for the specific department. If your discipline is not listed, you may select the ZE/ZS option provided by the relevant department.
8. I have a high GATE score, but my CGPA or marks are below the minimum required by IIT Bombay. Am I still eligible to apply?
OR
My university has awarded me a First Class, but my aggregate percentage or CGPA, according to IIT Bombay's norms, is below 60% or 6.75 (on a 10-point scale). I belong to the General/OBC category. Am I eligible to apply?

9. I have a degree from a foreign university. Will it be considered for admission at IIT Bombay?
You need to submit an "Equivalence Certificate" from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, for your qualifying exam, along with proof of having achieved First Class or 60% (55% for SC/ST) marks or the equivalent in the qualifying examination.
10. If I want to apply as a part-time or sponsored candidate, do I need to have a GATE score?
Candidates with two years of relevant work experience are exempt from the GATE score requirement if their candidature is sponsored by their employer (except in the Computer Science & Engineering Department). Please note that candidates applying under this category are not eligible for Teaching/Research Assistantships.
11 (a) I applied for GATE under the General category, but I now have an OBC-NC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate in the format prescribed by the Government of India. Can I apply under the OBC-NC category now?
OR
(b) While filling out the GATE 2024 form, I selected the OBC category. However, I now want to apply under the GN category due to the unavailability of the Non-Creamy Layer certificate, but the portal is not accepting changes to the category. What should I do?
You can edit the category by selecting the option 'Fill Form' while completing the application.
12. I am an OBC-NC candidate, but I do not have the latest OBC-NC certificate. What should I do?
Candidates belonging to OBC-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NC) MUST submit a valid, up-to-date OBC-NC certificate in the prescribed format at the time of joining. If you have an older certificate, you may apply with it, but you MUST provide the updated OBC-NC certificate at the time of admission if selected. Failure to present the latest certificate will result in the cancellation of your admission offer.
Only if you have an OBC certificate, you should apply under the GN/OBC category.
13. I am an EWS candidate, but I do not have the latest EWS certificate. What should I do?
Candidates must submit an EWS certificate issued by the Competent Authority in the prescribed format. If you do not have the latest certificate, you may apply with an old certificate or a notarized undertaking on a Rs. 100/- stamp paper. However, you MUST provide the updated EWS certificate at the time of admission if selected. Please note that failure to present the latest EWS certificate will result in the cancellation of your admission offer.
14. I am in the Persons with Disability (PwD) category, have a high GATE score, completed all the formalities, and was selected for the subsequent written test/interview. However, I have not received any communication. What should I do?
PwD candidates with at least a 40% permanent physical disability are eligible to qualify.
Selected candidates will receive an offer letter via email/SMS and can also check their status by logging into the ONLINE portal. If not selected, the status will remain 'NOT Offered'.
Additionally, PwD reservations are set at 5% (totaling 49 seats in M.Tech. programs) and will be horizontal, meaning PwD candidates will occupy seats within their birth category quota. If no PwD candidates are selected, the seats will be filled according to the birth category quota.
15. I am a sponsored candidate but do not have the sponsorship letter. What should I do?
If you do not have the Sponsorship Certificate in the prescribed format, you may submit an 'Undertaking' stating that you will provide the certificate at the time of admission. If selected, you will be required to produce the sponsorship certificate.
16. With one application fee, how many departments/specializations can I apply to?
You can apply to up to 10 departments/specializations.
17. I am unable to register for two M.Tech programs with the same email ID and mobile number. What should I do?
Candidates with two or more GATE scores are allowed to submit only one application form, where they should include the details of all their GATE scores.
18. I made a mistake while filling out the online application form. What should I do?
You can correct any mistakes or make changes to your "finally applied" by clicking the "UnFreeze Application" link before the application deadline.
Once you click "UnFreeze Application," your application will be treated as a Draft/Un-Submitted Application, allowing you to make changes.
Please note that your application will not be considered for further processing if you do not submit it "Finally," even if it is fully completed and the application fee has been paid.
19. I am not able to submit the form "Finally". What shall I do?
OR
I am facing difficulty while filling up the application form. What should I do?
Please follow these instructions for filling out the application form:
Carefully read the instructions provided.
Upload documents in their original file types (jpeg, jpg, png, PDF).
Ensure that file names for different documents are unique.
Avoid using null characters (" ", /, etc.) or copying and pasting from any Word document while filling out the form.
If you continue to experience issues, click the "REPORT PROBLEM" button on the online application portal and wait for a response from the Technical Team, which should be provided within 24 hours.
If you do not receive a reply within 2 working days, email your Secret Key, GATE Registration No., and a screenshot of the problem to pgadm@iitb.ac.in with the subject "Problem reported but not yet solved."
If you still do not receive a response within 2 working days, email dracad@iitb.ac.in with the subject "Problem reported but not yet solved."
20. Should I upload the consolidated marksheet, the final semester marksheet, the 7th and 8th semester marksheets, the degree certificate, or the convocation certificate?
You can upload any available documents. If selected, you must submit attested copies of your qualifying degree certificate, provisional degree certificate, and final transcripts/ marksheets by the deadline specified in the M.Tech. Information Brochure. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of your admission.
21. Whom should I contact to find out the shortlisting criteria, date of interview, and result of selection of candidates?
OR
I did not receive any email for a written test and/or interview or final offer. What should I do?
Visit the link, http://www.iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/mtech.jsp periodically for the updation of shortlisting criteria/ results/ important announcements.
Candidates selected are sent an offer letter through email/sms and also upon login ONLINE portal they can check their status. If not selected, their status does not change. It will show ('NOT Offered').
22. I have applied for admission to M.Tech. and my GATE score is enough to expect the call for admission. However, I have not been shortlisted for a written test and/or interview nor received any call Letter for a written test and/or interview though my Gate score is more than the desired or declared cut-off. What should I do?
The shortlisting of candidates for written tests and/or interviews under the Teaching Assistantship (TA) category depends upon the minimum qualifying cut-off and the number of applicants to be called discipline-wise. Usually, candidates are called for a written test/interview 8-10 times sanctioned intake.
The minimum qualifying cut-off displayed on the website is a mere cut-off and is not a guarantee for a call letter/offer letter.
23. I am a SC/ST candidate. Why have I been called for a written test and/or interview?
SC/ST candidates have direct admissions. However, if their GATE score is above the minimum qualifying GATE score then automatically they are treated as GN candidates and become eligible for written tests and/or interviews.
If you desire, you may appear for a written test and/or interview as a GN candidate, subject to fulfilling the eligible GATE requirements as a GN candidate.
24. What happens in case I am not able to submit all required documents before the payment of admission fees?
In case you are not able to submit the required documents before the last date of submission of documents, your admission is liable to be canceled.
25. Is there a chance of rescheduling the PG admission interview dates?
PG admission dates cannot be rescheduled. For more details please check the IIT Bombay web page http://www.iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/mtech.jsp regularly for updates.
26. I have paid the application fee/admission fee and the same is deducted from the Account. However, the status is showing 'Pending'. What should I do?
In case the amount is already deducted, do not pay again and wait for 2/3 days. The reconciliation process takes at least 2/3 days for confirmation of the amount paid.
27. I have paid the application fee/admission fee twice.
You have to send an email to pgadm@iitb.ac.in along with the transaction details such as your name, and applicant ID for a refund of the additional amount paid.
28. I applied at the COAP but did not pay the admission fee.

29. I have been offered a higher choice in the subsequent rounds of DA. However, I want to retain the lower choice.
The request to retain the lower choice will not be entertained.Kindly note that if you CONFIRM your admission at IIT Bombay by choosing the option 'Accept and Freeze' in this round [Direct Admission based on GATE score/Admission through Written Test and or Interview], you will be given an INTERNAL UPGRADATION at IIT Bombay in the subsequent rounds AUTOMATICALLY, and you will be shifted to your HIGHER CHOICE/PREFERENCE, being eligible for the same in IIT Bombay, as per your application submitted at IIT Bombay.
30. I have applied under the OBC-NC/EWS category but I have been offered a GN seat. Do I have to submit the OBC-NC/EWS certificate?
Yes, you have to submit the OBC-NC/EWS certificate.
31. I want to change the details in the application form after the last date of application. Can I do that?
No changes are allowed after the last date of application. Application once submitted is considered to be "FINAL".
32. Am I eligible to appear for the 'On the Spot Admission', against vacant seats at IIT Bombay?
The Teaching Assistantship (TA category) candidates who have applied for admission in the M.Tech program in the academic unit may appear for the 'On the Spot Admission', against vacant seats, subject to fulfillment of required criteria. The candidates who have already accepted the offer by paying requisite fees are not eligible for "On the Spot Admission". The Institute has decided that during 'On the Spot Admission' inter-department movement/shift will not be permitted. However, after joining, changes of specializations within the department are permitted subject to the availability of seats and satisfying the required criteria for that specialization. The candidate should not have marked the "Accept & Freeze" option on COAP to confirm admission to ANY OTHER participating Institute in COAP (including IIT Bombay). He/She is neither appearing for the "On the Spot admission" for the same specialization nor the same department while he/she has been rejected in earlier rounds of COAP.
33. I am not able to download my application form. What should I do?
